Ten Thousand Villages is a nonprofit,
self-supporting, non-governmental, fair
trade organization designed to benefit
artisans, not to maximize profits. We
market hand-made products from artisans
in low income countries and provide
consumers around the world with products
that have been fairly purchased from
sustainable resources.
Our mission is to provide vital and fair income to people in over 36 developing countries by selling their handicrafts and telling their stories. Our store not only provides a marketplace for fairly traded handicrafts but promotes cross-cultural experiences and understanding. Through sales, our customers improve the economic life of artisans and their families by providing income for food, education, health care and housing. Each of our producer groups provide safe working conditions where employees earn fair wages while using environmentally sustainable resources.
